nursery painting: sneak peek

Oh. My. Gosh. This is taking forever, but it is SO worth it. I love it so far!

First, we cleared the room and painted all of the grooves of the paneling antique white...

Then, we went in with Pottery Barn Wedgewood Gray and painted some of the large panels that color, and some of the others the orginal Traditional Tan...

Then, some of the others were painted Antique White. There was no definite pattern. Just as long as two of the same colors didn't end up next to each other. I didn't want it to be a repeated pattern. I was afraid it might look like an American flag or something. I love the randomness of it. And it seems more artsy and creative.

We still have one half of a wall to do. But so far, I love the vintage, graphic feel of it. The color combination is very classic, and with the buffalo check drapes it seems to be from another era. I like that.

More to come later this weekend! Enjoy this beautiful day!

Blooming

Spring time is officially made it's way to our house. Everything seems to be in full bloom: the daffodils, Easter, the nursery, and most of all, me.

Whenever I might get a little nervous because I think my belly button can't possibly stretch any tighter, I go in here:

Mom finished the bumper pad and it looks so great. I love everything about it. She has been busy trying to keep up with all of my ideas and fabric-buying. I don't know what I would do without her. She seems to have an amazing ability to read minds and create beautiful tangible items out of vague descriptions.

Co-Grandmother is no slouch herself. Enormous Fed-Ex boxes arrive at our house full of beautifully wrapped boutique items on a regular basis. It's like a mini-baby shower for just my husband and me. I don't deserve it. I am amazed by her generosity and good taste. She has been a great teacher of all things fine.

Close girlfriends constantly call to check on me and seem to be as excited about this baby as I am. Even the guy-friends of ours feel a certain responsibility and affinity to this little addition to our circle.

As the sun filters in this room, I reflect on how blessed I am. Who knew that someone whom I haven't even met yet can make you appreciate the people who have been there all along.?

Have a great Sunday!

soccer mom

See this foot? The one abnormally large for a baby? The one that looks just like my husband's, curled toes and all? Well that's what I've been feeling a lot of lately. Baby likes to kick. Hard. I think I see soccer games in our future. :-) That makes me happy.

short but sweet

I know this is a pathetic attempt at a post, and this picture isn't even all that great, but I just had to share the adorable bedskirt that has been added. I love it. Thank you Momma!

nursery update part 2

What was I saying about a gender neutral nursery? Um...yeah. Once you find out the gender of your sweet boo, you want to completely indulge in all things boy/girl. I have completely changed my color scheme and pattern. Boogie seems to like it.

Our sweet friend came over to help "build" the crib, as my adorable husband put it. (It had twelve pre-drilled holes for screws.)

This is how it has looked for weeks. Yikes.

Enter Mom to the rescue. She came in and removed all excess items and lovingly packed them into her storage for our next garage sale. We bought hundreds of dollars in fabrics that she took home with her in bags. They will soon debut in the room as beautiful draperies, quilts, pillows, bumper pad, bedskirt, and changing pad covers. God I love that woman.

He will not need this chair very often, because he will be so well-behaved. We are counting on him taking after me. ;-)

Sweet outfits, care of the grandmothers, just waiting.

Remember that shelf that was in the room before? Here it is in the closet as an alternative to a chest of drawers. We have six more small baskets on order to fill those other two shelves. The closet in this room is quite large. I predict he will hide out in here with Gizmo. They're going to be best friends.

Here is a close-up of what will be the drapery fabric. It looks just like one of my husband's favorite shirts, which I happen to love. Those baskets are filled with vintage wooden toys donated by my mother-in-law.

Of course, this room is nowhere near complete. We have big plans over Spring Break. There is still painting to be done, draperies to be installed, and I'm on a quest for the perfect rug to give some definition to what will be my little nursing nook. Oh yeah, and I need a glider, side table...

Here's to our sweet baby boy and a great weekend!
